The South Dakota State University Graduate School hosted its 10th annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT庐) Competition Feb. 6. The event challenges graduate students to present their research in just three minutes. Hosting 24 participants from a broad range of disciplines, the event highlighted the impressive research being done by both master's and Ph.D. students while emphasizing the power of clear, engaging communication to relay the importance of their work to the broader community.

The annual South Dakota State University Celebration of Faculty Excellence recognized 28 faculty members, researchers and scholars Tuesday. The event honors faculty members in the university's colleges for outstanding research, teaching and service.

South Dakota State University pharmacy students outdid themselves in the 2024 North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination. Dan Hansen, dean of the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions, said 56 of the 59 Pharm.D. graduates took the exam in 2024, and all 56 passed on their first attempt, giving 海角直播app a 100% pass rate.

Jack the Jackrabbit wasn鈥檛 in the delivery room when Dave and Elaine Gullickson鈥檚 three children were born, but that was about the only time they weren鈥檛 surrounded by a Yellow and Blue influence. Between going to sporting events, watching the Hobo Day parade, visiting the Dairy Bar and climbing Coughlin Campanile, the Gullickson children were frequently experiencing South Dakota State University. So, when it came time for Michele, Lori and Jeff to choose a college, it鈥檚 not surprising they stayed in Brookings and chose Jackrabbits for spouses. Fast forward a generation and eight of Dave and Elaine鈥檚 grandchildren also have become 海角直播app graduates or are attending 海角直播app. That鈥檚 why when it came time for the 海角直播app Alumni Association to choose its 2025 Family of the Year, the Gullickson鈥檚 nomination was impossible to ignore. The family will be honored at a March 1 awards luncheon at the Alumni Center and then at the women鈥檚 basketball game versus St. Thomas that afternoon.

Theater lives by the adage 鈥淭he show must go on.鈥� But when 鈥渙n鈥� means on the road, that鈥檚 another matter, and when it is 336 miles away at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, that鈥檚 another matter yet. But that was the case for 28 South Dakota State University theater students when they presented at the annual event in Des Moines, Iowa, Jan. 21.

Four electrical engineering students at South Dakota State University students earned scholarships from a national organization for the current school year. The recipients are seniors Kalen Meyer and Luke Rasmussen, both of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and juniors Nicholas Erickson of Pierce, Nebraska, and Drake Rogers of Milbank.

For pharmacist Dean Schmiedt, it was right time at the right place. Shortly after graduation from South Dakota State University, the federal government enacted new regulations requiring that skilled nursing homes have a pharmacist review patients鈥� medications monthly. . His boss at Lovdahl鈥檚 Drug, in Little Falls, Minnesota, wasn鈥檛 interested in doing that task. Schmiedt, a 1973 海角直播app grad, picked up the work as a side job. He ended up becoming a full-time independent consultant pharmacist and a leader in the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists. Earlier this fall, Schmiedt, of Fort Ripley, Minnesota, was honored by 海角直播app鈥檚 College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions as its 2024 Distinguished Alumnus.
