The bachelor's degree is a continuation of the A.S. degree in respiratory care. The bachelor's degree will further develop your respiratory therapy skills and knowledge base in:

Program Goal
To provide graduates of entry into respiratory care professional practice degree programs with additional knowledge, skills and attributes in leadership, management, education, research and/or advanced clinical practice that will enable them to meet their current professional goals and prepare them for practice as advanced respiratory therapists.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will apply advanced interpersonal and interprofessional communication techniques at the appropriate level to effectively engage with patients, families, the public and healthcare professionals. This will include demonstration of proficiency in both written and oral communication forms.
- Students will be able to access, review, evaluate, interpret and apply evidence-based research associated with respiratory care and/or related to management, clinical practice or education.
- Students will understand and apply effective and ethical principles to lead a group of professionals, promote best practices and advocate for patients.
- Students will integrate biomedical and clinical sciences to effectively solve complex health care situations.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to solve complex leadership problems, implement process improvement strategies, and provide effective oral and written communication skills.
- Students will create and present a professionally relevant capstone project that aligns with their personal professional goals.
Accreditation
South Dakota State University is currently in the process of seeking CoARC accreditation for a respiratory care program. However, South Dakota State University can provide no assurance that accreditation will be granted by the CoARC.
