If you are a new Direct Loan borrower, you will need to complete both a master promissory note and entrance loan counseling. The master promissory note is the legal document that you sign agreeing to repay your student loans. Entrance loan counseling provide information on your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower. Both of these need to be completed by the student borrower and not a parent.
