Arts at The Oscar

Join us for an inaugural community arts celebration at The Oscar! This evening is designed to engage, recognize and showcase performing and visual artists, patrons, and art enthusiasts in the Brookings community.
Enjoy a “night of stars,†showcasing local artists of all ages who will flood the Performing Arts Center with their artistic talents. The night will end with a headlining performance by The Kings of Soul & Swing, featuring the stars from "Hamilton: The Musical" and The Glenn Miller Orchestra!
5:15 p.m. – Social hour (appetizers and soft drinks included. Cash bar available)
6 p.m. – Opening ceremony
6:30 p.m. – Local talent showcases
8:30 p.m. – Performance by The Kings of Soul & Swing (dancing will be encouraged)

Get ready for an unforgettable experience! Our Arts at The Oscar headliners, Broadway star Julius Thomas III ("Hamilton: The Musical") and big band frontman Mark R. Kopitzke (The Glenn Miller Orchestra) — also known as The Kings of Soul & Swing — are hosting a special masterclass before the event!

Who can attend? Available exclusively for Arts at The Oscar ticket holders (tickets will be checked at the door).

To start the evening, guests will arrive at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center starting at 5:15 p.m. and enjoy a social hour with appetizers and drinks. We will have local musicians playing live music in the lobby. At 6 p.m., guests will be escorted into the Oscar Larson Proscenium Theatre for an opening ceremony. The ceremony will welcome guests, awards for local recognition or awards for art will be presented, and the evening’s schedule of events will be presented. The opening ceremony will provide a launching point for the rest of the evening.
Following the opening ceremony, the building will be flooded with performing and visual art showcases. Every venue space will have art displayed or performed by Brookings-area artists. We will have showcases broken out into age groups including 18 and younger and 19 and older.

- Group and solo instrumental
- Group and solo vocal
- Technical performing arts (e.g., costuming, props, scenic design, lights, sound)
- Visual arts demonstrations
- Visual arts exhibitions
