Theatre and Dance Summer Exploration Days

Who can attend?
Any sixth-12th grade student.
When is it?
July 14-15, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. (lunch provided)
July 16, 9:30 a.m.-9 p.m. (lunch and dinner provided)
July 16, 4:15 p.m. (open performance for parents)
July 16, 7 p.m. (all campers attend Prairie Repertory Theatre performance of "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" – ticket provided)
How much does it cost?
$50 including lunches, snacks, materials and a ticket to PRTs "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers"
Where is it?
At the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center, Brookings.
What will I learn?
Dance for musical theater, voice for musical theater, acting and theatrical design.
All workshops cost $50*.
Each workshop is limited to 20 participants.
Workshop A: High School Performer
Workshop B: High School Designer/Technician
Workshop C: Middle School Performer and Designer/Technician
Registration will open April 2025.
Workshop A: High School Performer
Students participating in Workshop A can expect the following experiences:
- Engage in master classes with theatre, dance and vocal music professors.
- Rehearse and perform a 10-minute play directed by º£½ÇÖ±²¥app Prairie Repertory Theatre performers.
- Rehearse and perform a song and dance from "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers."
- Attend the PRT musical "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers."
Daily workshop activities:
- Warm-ups and theatre games
- Master classes
- Lunch
- Production meetings
- Rehearsals
What to wear/bring:
- Rehearsal clothes – clothing that is easy to move in that covers busts, bottoms and bellies
- Sneakers – no sandals, flip-flops or Crocs
- One all-black outfit for the performance (Wednesday)
- Stage makeup kit if you own one
- Snacks and water bottle

Workshop B: High School Designer/Technician
Students participating in Workshop B can expect the following experiences:
- Serve as a designer or technician for 10-minute plays in our state-of-the-art facilities.
- Engage in master classes with our design tech faculty.
- Engage in work sessions to prepare for 10-minute play performance.
- Attend "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers."
Daily workshop activities:
- Design/development sessions
- Lunch
- Master classes
- Work sessions in a variety of shops
What to wear/bring:
- Stage blacks for crew work (Wednesday)
- Work/paint clothes
- Closed-toed shoes/sneakers
- Stage makeup kit if you have one
- Snacks and water bottle
